We chennaities are jealous about roads of mumbai or other cities.

the present problems in the chennai roads are:

1. manholes of drainage systems: they are either protruding over the road level or at a deeper level. motorists either have to avoid it risking their lives or fall over it damage the vehicle and the body system including back bones.

2. road cuttings: for laying cables the roads are cut. the past history is , irresponsible people have left it just like that without properly covering it.
some responsible people covered it expecting that the sand underneath will pave in. sometimes they act like a speed a breaker.

3. pot holes: Road contractors of Chennai are famous for laying roads that dissolve in rain water or stagnant water. Govt and so called officials can not touch them or question them. road contractors are so powerful than the officials and politicians. Officials and politicians may be powerful inside their air conditioned office cabins.
they have t travel on these roads keeping eyes closed.

4. Advertisement boards: Boards are erected using the platforms and even the roads in some places. the iron pillars are placed on the roads in some places. in some places the signals were blocked by the advertisement boards. no official can question. officials will work only on the intervention of the courts. they are accustomed like this. they cannot think independently.

5. Sow progress of road repairs: in some places the road repairs are done at a snail's pace. We can put boards like MEN WORKING SLOWLY AS USUAL. TAKE DIVERSION.
No committed people No committed team. No committed supervisors.

6. Road laying: In some places, a new technique is followed. first gravels or stones will be spread out over the road. then they will forget about these. the people who move around will definitely curse about these. but will do nothing.
after some months, somebody will remember about the half boiled work and they start laying the roads.

7. Patch works: Chennai roads are famous for patch works. years together some roads have seen only the patch works.

8. Quality of the roads: Less said is better: Thinnest layers will be laid in the name of relaying. these layers will come off as soon as the first rain comes.


Who cares ? No responsible citizen is available in chennai to take up this.
Everybody is busy in viewing TV. some serial, some dance. Life is occupied fully by TV. they can't even realize it. Shhhh. We should not tell even anybody that they are watching TV too much and losing their thinking capacity.

We can't go to court to correct these. already lakhs of cases are pending in our courts. court officials are finding it hard to manage millions of cases.

What could be the remedies ?

1. Can every road have a board mentioning the name of the road contractor, the area engineer of corporation, the official who supervised the road while laying, and the amount paid to lay that road ?
Some may protest for this. Because all along we are not knowing who is such an efficient person.
Some will not protest. Nothing will work for them. Even let thunders fall on them. Nothing can move them. They are powerful than any Govt. any political party.

2. Each colony/area resident association can have a protest march to the respective corporation office whenever the quality of the roads are poor or some roads are not relaid for a long time or in bad condition.

It's doubtful whether this will work. Do you think the officials don't know the pathetic conditions of the road. they know very well.

3. Having a fast before the corporation zonal office.

corporation people will laugh at you. you should not wonder if somebody is not eating briyani in front of you during the fast, just to irritate you.

4. Political party leaders, MLAs, Councillors to take more responsibility and direct some official to take care of roads.

It is again doubtful. Already these leaders are busy with their regular works, meeting party people, doing favour for party people. party is first for them. because it gave them the posts. they can delegate this work provided they find a suitable and honest person in their party to do this.

5. honouring the zonal corporation officials where the roads are kept in good condition.

this may work. if too much publicity is given, these officials may be transferred.
honest people cannot remain in the same place for a long time. that is history.

6. creating awareness to the public:
Possibility is less: Nobody is interested for society. but everybody wants some help, benefit from society. strange but true. let the people watch more programs on TV and forget the road conditions and other problems.

I still believe something can be done. There are many responsible people in the Corporation, Political parties. Even one judge may read this, and direct the Govt to do something.

Let's hope for the better. Till then, let our tolerance level go to the sky level.
